Can I tell you something?
Recently, I experienced something that made me question many things I once thought were certain.
I had expectations. I believed. I prayed. I hoped. I was convinced it would work out.
But the disappointment was loud, and it left me really broken.
Maybe you’ve been there too.
We don’t often talk about what it feels like when God doesn’t seem to respond the way we expected. We quote Scripture. We tell ourselves to “have faith.” We try to bury the disappointment and just move on.
But underneath it all, your heart is quietly whispering, “God… what happened?”
If that’s where you are, I want you to know this:
Bring that question to Him.
He isn’t intimidated by your disappointment. He isn’t threatened by your tears or your confusion. He already knows what’s in your heart; He simply wants you to bring it into His presence.
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.
You don’t have to hide behind spiritual language.
Hope deferred really does make the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12). A sick heart doesn’t need to be silenced or shamed; it needs tender loving care.
Maybe that’s what this moment is inviting you to do.
Not to have all the answers.
Not to force yourself to “move on.”
But to sit with the One who already knows. Sit with the Father.
Tell Him exactly how you feel.
Ask the questions you’ve been afraid to ask.
Let Him remind you of who He is, even when you cannot understand what He is doing.
Let Him remind you of who you are, even when disappointment has tried to redefine you.
And let the Holy Spirit do what only He can do: comfort, nurture, strengthen, and gently restore the places in you that have grown weary.
A Few Questions to Sit With:
- What am I disappointed about… really?
- What expectation did I have of God that wasn’t met?
- What story have I started telling myself because of this disappointment?
- Have I been avoiding God or inviting Him into my pain?
- If I believed God was listening without judgment, what would I honestly say to Him today?
- What part of my heart feels sick, weary, or afraid?
- What do I need from God in this season, not as the solution to my problem, but as my Father?
- What truth about God’s character do I need to hold onto while I wait for understanding?
You don’t have to answer these all at once.
Just begin the conversation.
Sometimes our healing starts with finding the courage to be honest in the presence of the One who loves you.
Your ever faithful and ever true Father is waiting to receive you.
You are loved. You are seen. You are known.
“Call to Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV
