Just Enjoy the Journey…

I’m all packed up and head out to go.
I speed along and its fun as I look out and see:
New things, new sights
New vistas, new moons
It’s exciting, its enlightening,
It’s new and possibilities beckon
I’m excited and wide-eyed as I take in the sights

Until

All of a sudden I tire of the trip
And wonder what’s ahead.
I look and stare but can see only so far
The monotony becomes unbearable
As the images I see and form
Do not scratch the itch in my heart

I long to arrive, to get to the new
to set down feet and roots to grow
I say to myself , this movement is so not me

I want do do more than just move
I want to see more than just trees
I want to settle, I want to feel the soil under my feet
I want to build and thrive and feel I belong

But

I’m still in this whirlpool of movement
nothing is stable, everything shakes
I feel torn and faint
No sense of belonging as I move along
No memories as they are all fleeting and short

And just as I give up another sigh, I hear the phrase
“Just enjoy the journey”
It’s a fleeting whisper but I hear as
I lament again
And cry about what, why and how I feel

It comes again
“Just enjoy the journey”
I pause, stop and wait
As I do, I notice the intense longing
For an end fades just a bit

I lean in, and bend to listen and it comes again
Fainter this time…
“Just enjoy the journey”

So I look up and see
A field blooming with wheat
I see the stalks, the ears and the grain
And in that moment I know that I must wait…
Until it’s time to be plucked
And there my journey will end
And until then

I obey and choose to enjoy the journey!
