The State of the Nigerian Election: Our Response and Mandate

When we look at where we are as a nation and what is happening, many of us wonder, ‘God, you spoke, we prayed and we did what you asked us to do. Why do we find ourselves in this place where the person that we do not desire has been made king?’

I am here to remind you today that when God anointed David as king over Israel, nobody knew how long the journey to the throne was going to be. David went through many hurdles to get to the throne. There is the possibility that others who saw David anointed forgot about the promise but God never did. The moment God says He is going to do something, he does what is required to bring it to fruition.

The problem with us is that we want to be able to figure out in minds how God will bring His word to pass. God has not called us to figure out His ways. Hed has called us to a journey of faith.

Concerning Nigeria, God is asking us to hold on to the word He has spoken already. We need to be fully persuaded that things will happen as He has said.

The first thing we need to understand is that none of us brought about Nigeria. God did. God created Nigeria and put all of us in it. Some may argue that Nigeria has a false foundation created by man but we of all people know that nothing happens with God’s orchestration.

I believe that God is taking the nation on a journey, a journey that is very similar to David’s journey to the throne. Everything that David went through was to shape him into the king God wanted him to become.

So, don’t even for a second think that God has abandoned us. As I said before the election, it was never about the election. God raised many people across the country to pray for Nigeria. In fact, some people started praying for Nigeria long before we picked up the prayer burden.  So, we have the assurance that Nigeria cannot fall apart. God has a prophetic destiny over the life of Nigeria and it will be fulfilled.

The final result of the presidential election as announced by INEC is in line with God’s agenda for Nigeria. Remember, Saul was still king for many years even after David was anointed as king. Whoever is king does not really matter to God. What matters is that his full agenda for Nigeria comes to fruition.

So, we cannot afford to feel like something has gone wrong because nothing takes God by surprise. Just watching how things played out in the election showed me the full hand of God. That many people will leave their homes to vote in the election wasn’t a result of the will of the people. It was the spirit of God, stirred up by the prayers of many that called people to come into the knowledge of justice.

There is an awakening to justice in Nigeria that has been inspired by the spirit of God. It is obvious that God is working through the process to bring Nigerians into the fullness of what He desires. By the time we become that nation, we will be sought after by nations of the world who would say, ‘How did you achieve all of these?’

As we navigate the next couple of months, we must always remember that everything happening is part of God’s plan. It is the answer to the prayers we have been praying.

Now is the time for us to war with the prophetic words God has released over Nigeria. If you need encouragement, go back to the words He spoke in time past. The words haven’t changed because God does not change His promise.

We are in a season where the world around is looking up to us, hoping to find hope. We can’t afford to be downcast. If you can’t see the hand of God right now, you are truly missing something.

This is the hand of God:

  • A candidate with ‘no structure’ got 6 million votes in the elections
  • The rigging of the electoral process is obvious for all to see. Before now, rigging happened in the electoral process but the layman did not understand how politicians got it done.
  • In previous election, it was impossible to determine over voting. We did not know what figures to expect so we went with whatever figures were presented to us. The big rallies somewhat validated the numbers.
  • However, in this election we saw that a key state like Lagos had less than a million accredited voters. Kano State could not deliver on its big numbers. These are signs of transparency and openness. These are victories being delivered to us by God.
  • There is overwhelming evidence to prove that the election process was rigged. In previous elections, this was not the case.

So, brace yourself because the Pandora Box will soon be opened by whistleblowers because God is rearranging the political structure and process of Nigeria. He is in the process of unravelling the existing structure and replacing it with the foundation that we can build on firmly.

Don’t partner with the enemy to dismantle this foundation by speaking negatively or making confessions based on fear.

Buhari’s administration was instrumental in God’s agenda for Nigeria because God used it to expose the true state of decay in the country. The administration was God’s way of pulling into the present issues that would have happened 20 – 30 years from now if Buhari did not come into power.

God is at work and our job in this season as His ambassadors is to ignite and revive hope in the hearts of men and women. We are not to join the Leviathan in releasing negative words. We are called to exult, comfort and edify people.

During Rosh Hasanah, I gave a prophetic word about us coming into a season where there will be an appearance of chaos but God would work out His desire in the midst of the chaos. This is the season. He is unearthing what needs to be unearthed.

God cannot be mocked. When Goliath was mocking, he had a David ready. There was also a Jehu and a Jael. Spread the word of hope. God is working out His counsel in Nigeria!
